100 Gms – Chickpeas – Chhole ( soaked overnight)

50 Gms- Potato

100 Gms- ( 4 tomatoes) Tomato Puree

100 Gms – Onions( Small Chopped)

1 Tbsp- Ginger/Garlic paste

Spices- 1 tsp or as per your taste, turmeric, chilli powder, cumin-coriander powder, asafoetida/hing,  chhole or Punjabi garam masala powder, Cinnamon, clove & bay-leaf, salt as per taste

2 tsp- tea powder( Chay Patti)

1 Tsp- Lemon Juice


  1. Firstly,  in a cooker take soaked chickpeas and peeled potato. Make a one potli by adding clove, bay leaf, tea powder. Boil chickpeas with this potli to make them black and flavourful. Cook it till 6/7 whistles. Open the cooker and keep that aside.
  2. Now take a non-stick pan, add chopped onion in it without adding oil. After simmering the onion,  add tomato puree, ginger garlic paste, all spices and salt.
  3. Now, mash some chhole to make the gravy thick. If you find the water you can add roasted besan but because of potato, you may not need. Serve hot with the rice or paratha.
